Boring match : Livorno vs Juventus

I watched a live streaming match between Livorno vs Juventus. I am the “old-lady” fan but last night’s game was disappointing. The new coach, Zaccheroni, still couldn’t bring up the lads’ passion to the game. The players was running with no direction even to score a goal or more.

Livorno scored first and made me think, Juve hasn’t change at all. The defense strategy was not able to cover the defense ground perfectly, though it had the best Italian defenders like Chiellini, Cannavaro, Legrotaglie and Grosso. Those players are Marcello Lippi’s Italian Squad defender, but they were not showing a world class defender.

Juve was able to bring the match level by Legrotaglie’s good heading. It was started on a dead ball situation and Legrotaglie came forward and score. The forward line hardly got into the game, Del Piero and Amauri couldn’t finished the chances. Amauri had a lot of chances to score, but he’s not put his name on the score sheet, and the game ended draw. This match is no good to both teams, Juve has to put more strength to be on the Serie A big four standings this season.

2009’s Concert Journal : The All-American Rejects & MxPx

A week before Mae’s show in Bandung,on july 2009, I’ve being offered to promote an american pop-punk band, The All-American Rejects (AAR). The AAR’s show was actually taken by another Indonesian promoter, but for some reason they couldn’t produce the show properly. And then I asked Nada Promotama, a local promoter company to finance the show and Heaven Records somehow took the credit as co-promoter company also with LAMC Production,Sg.

Prepared the show on a short notice was not easy, only had 3 weeks to make it happen. The first thing to do on a show production is securing venue, and that was the hard part of AAR’s show. No venue was available for 17th August 2009, until I got information that I could took over the venue that already booked by previous organizer, but then still, it’s not easy as I think. We had to pay more than the actual price!. Production equipment as requested by them was not too difficult. They already brought they own 10 Tons of rig, so we just provide them PA and the lighting system.

A month before the show, Bombing incident happened in Jakarta, at Ritz-Carlton Hotel and J.W Marriot Hotel. It was shocking the people around the world but not The All-American Rejects. I booked Ritz-Carlton Hotel, where the incident happen for them to stay! but when the band and our team stayed there, it looked like nothing happen for sure. The Hotel was nice, the service was outstanding and everyone’s happy.

The show was planned to start at 7pm but not until 8.30 or maybe almost 9pm. We had Indonesian national anthem sang by the crowds and Tyson Ritter, AAR’s vocalist came up the stage and waving the Indonesian flag. yes, 17 Aug is Indonesian independence day. after that, Tyson went down, took almost 1 hour for changing his clothes and put glitter on his body. the Crowds were not too happy for waiting. It took 2 hours for the band to play all their hits-songs.

MxPx Closed the year 2009 with a sunny-afternoon punk rock show at saparua, bandung on Dec 12,2009.
the show was opened by 3 local punk/rock bands Disconnected, Nudist Island and Bugskin Bugle. MxPX wasn’t coming with all original members except Mike Herrera (Bass, Vocal) and Kris Roe of The Ataris played guitar and Chris Wilson (Good Charlotte former member), so that made the show called “MxPx All-Star”.

MAE live in concert

Back in 2007, I started to listen to MAE (www.whatismae.com) and I got my self attracted to some tracks. So I brought MAE to my company, Heaven Records to be discussed, and then we decided to bring MAE to Indonesia for one or couple shows.

I started to contact Eva @ FATA booking by email. She replied that I have to contact Steve at some point. but then Steve told me that I should contact Emma Banks. well, then I contacted Emma and no response.

time after time, after year, then I got news from a friend, that someone here in Indonesia got a direct contact to MAE and he able to arrange shows in Indonesia. so, I asked about this guy, I thought he’s like a real band agency but then I found out he’s just like a “middle” agent who unofficially got involve between the real band agency and promoter.

so, I met the guy, quite nice guy. but at the time in 2008, my company was not able to finance the show. so I guess we passed it.

Finally, an organizer company from Bandung was making deal and will organize the show. MAE was planned to play in January on the same day with my wedding! Fxxk… and there was no chance for me to go and see MAE.

And the day was coming, week before the show the guy, the “middle” agent guy called me about the show and the show is canceled.

There was so many questions inside my head. What the hell was wrong. so, the official statement mentioned that the authorities disapproved permits for MAE’s show in Bandung.

Few months later, I met a guy from a new concert organizer company and had little chat. I asked him if his company able to finance show of band from US. so with his company, Nada Promotama, MAE will play in Bandung, Indonesia. and I personally supervising all the production along with my team from Heaven Records.

Politics in Music Business

When I say politic, I don’t connect it with actual politics. There’s no political party involves, I only use “politic” because I define it as an action of people to get to they purpose. In every aspect of our life there is always politic. at your home, school even your office. Don’t you noticed on how your business partner tries hard to make some effort of their career?

so what’s the politic in music business?

first of all, let see how a musician writes song or making music. what is their purpose? are those to get satisfaction, make money, to be famous or else?. The point is their going to do an action to get their purpose, and that is politic.

now, let see on the prespective of music business practitioners such as a CEO or an A&R director of major label company. we know definately, they are looking for profit as much as they can. so what is their politic? :

1. they get “close” with media

2. they cut 10% of band’s fee of every shows.

3. they “book” TV program to get their artists/bands play on the TV shows.

4. they put a lead singer of their band to a solo project, because they think that the band is not longer making a good material. (this is recently happened to “Serieus”, a rock  band in Indonesia). do they think about the rest of the band? that’s a different story.

anyway, that is just a short example of politic by music business practitioners.

there are so many more people or company involve in music business and they have their own politics.

Indonesian Media says Indie-Band?

Media is the most powerful institution that can make everything spread out well or bad, and even they make their own words about everything new and about everything that already established. now, what they say about music? of course about Gossip of musician’s personal life.  how about their thoughts about music itself ?…

this are few things they actually say on their articles or their write-ups, that I feel that they made terrible mistake:

Indie Band is refer to new established- bands

Indie Music is refer to music that made by Indie Band

I just can smile at my own face and have to make it “right”.  because what I think is, don’t call band with “indie” and there is no such thing in music history, a music genre called “Indie-Music”. so, stop calling Indie Band! ..stop calling Indie Music. even our friend from www.uncluster.com say it!, come on guys, you all better than this.

you can put the words “Indie” or independent to a records label.  Because we have all references that can define Indie-label but no Indie Bands.

Legal Aspect of Music Industry in Indonesia

Indonesia is famous with its variety of traditional music and “mainstream” music as well. The music industry in Indonesia is stucked because of th records products piracy issues. Indonesia is run by the law, but still , it doesn’t guarantee that the law’s supremacy in Indonesia can solve this piracy problems. Indonesia has all the rules and constitution about Intellectual Property Rights.

Forget about all the critisism, let see about legal aspects of Music Industry. As we know, Law has purpose to manage human behaviour, so Law is not about a “thing” but it’s about how a person should do, shouldn’t do, can’t do or can do, allow to do or not allow to do. if there’s a law about music industry, it’s not about what kind of music should or shouldn’t be hear by people but it’s about what people should or shouldn’t do, not allow or allow to do something in order to do the music business.

it’s always start with “connection” between people. we can see that,  in music industry so many people interact. but, if we put the simple start, for example: there some kind interaction between members of a band, a band and a manager, band management with a promoteur. so start small, and get more complicated. so, if we want to know about all legal aspect in music industry, it’s not only about records deal or a copyrights license. there are so many things more than that.

PERSIB BANDUNG FC, continues..

Secara teori, untuk menjadi sebuah perusahaan adalah gampang, terutama untuk sebuah klub sepak bola. pada kenyataannya yang membuat semuanya menjadi sulit adalah konflik kepentingan. Seperti halnya melakukan privatisasi atas BUMN, sehingga kita harus melihat bahwa pasti ada sesuatu di balik semuanya itu. Kita memang tidak boleh berprasangka buruk, tetapi secara sederhana kita bisa membuat kesimpulan.

Kehadiran bpk. Umuh Muchtar (maaf jika ada kesalahan penulisan nama) di Persib mesti didukung penuh, beliau adalah bobotoh persib yang berhati mulia, mau mensisihkan waktu dan materinya untuk Persib. Tetapi sekiranya beliau pun harus berhati-hati dengan “staff” lainya, untuk pengusaha seperti beliau dalam keterlibatannya di Persib adalah mungkin semata-mata hanya dedikasi, tetapi jika seorang birokrat, pejabat pemerintah daerah ada di manajemen persib, tentunya harus berhati-hati. Persib tidak bisa dijadikan kerja “sampingan”, karena mulai LSI 2008 ini, Persib semestinya sudah memiliki full-time staffs.

Jangan dulu anti mendengar privatisasi, toh sebuah BUMN yang dikelola negara atau pemerintah selalu tidak memberikan kemajuan yang signifikan. contoh saja katakan PT. PERTAMINA, sudah berpuluh-puluh tahun berdiri masih saja ada permasalahan yang sangat mendasar sehingga belum bisa memberikan kontribusi maksimal, secara kasat mata bisa dikatakan .. Pertamina tidak bisa bersaing dengan perusahaan minyak lain. kenapa? karena ada konflik kepentingan!. adalah suatu kebanggan jika Pertamina menjadi sponsor salah satu tim F1! .. adalah bangga jika Lewis Hamilton dalam baju balapnya tertempel logo pertamina.

Untuk Persib, siapa yang tidak mau Persib menjadi swasta? adalah para pengurusnya yang berasal dari komunitas “Balai Kota bandung”. sangat lucu jika mereka mengatasnamakan masyarakat Bandung atau Jawa Barat dalam membuat alasan sangat berat memprivatisasi Persib, katanya mereka takut Persib hilang keaslianya, padahal saya yakin bobotoh Persib mah hanya ingin Persib maju, professional siapapun pemiliknya asalakan tidak ada lagi masalah-masalah mendasar, dan sudah saatnya memikirkan jangka panjang. kontrak pemain bukan lagi Setahun atau semusim kompetisi/liga tetapi sudah sedikitnya minimal 3 tahun kontrak. karena pemain pun bisa dijadikan income bagi klub.

semuanya sekarang terserah bobotoh, Persib harus maju, bobotoh pun harus bersuara. sudah saatnya Persib Bandung Football Club berdiri!!!

THE GLOBAL BATTLE OF THE BANDS

There are so many talent or music competition in this world. in Indonesia there are several band competition, or talent competition but I assume that it none of them could guarantee that the winner was truly a talented person or band. What happens in Indonesia, stays in Indonesia. what I’m trying to say that, in Indonesia, there are so many talented musicians but they never being heard by other people around the globe. The music-industry in Indonesia, never posses a world-wide achievement. They never want to publish their artists to international music-lovers.

Once I found Global Battle Of The Bands (GBOB Challenge), I speak to my self, “this is a chance for Indonesian!”. GBOB Challenge offers great opportunity to all bands with any kind of music genres. when I opened the GBOB’s web site, I didn’t see the Indonesian Flag on it. so, where the hell is indonesian music industry practitioners? why didn’t they see it?..

So I hope, The GBOB Challenge will happen in Indonesia, and to all bands in Indonesia can participate this great international event!

PERSIB BANDUNG FC

“PERSIB BANDUNG FC (Football CLub)”,.. sebuah nama klub yang semestinya untuk Persib Bandung saat ini. bukan sebuah nama yang tidak bermakna tapi dengan nama tersebut berisi substansi sebuah klub sepakbola yang profesional. Sudah saatnya Persib Bandung menjadi klub yang dikelola secara profesional dan komersil, janganlah terkecoh dengan pernyataan-pernyataan pengurus Persib saat ini yang mengatakan sangat sulit untuk membentuk sebuah klub yang profesional, apalagi salah satu tabloid olah raga terkenal menyebutkan bahwa pembentukan klub profesional dengan dilatar belakangi bentuk badan hukum perseoran terbatas (PT) adalah hal yang rumit. UU tentang Perseroan Terbatas telah direvisi, dan tidak ada kerumitan dari segi pendaftaran dan pengesahan.

tentunya masalah siapa yang akan membentuk badan hukum bagi Persib Bandung ini adalah pengurus Persib yang saat ini “mengurus” Persib. Sudah saatnya Persib dikendalikan oleh staff profesional, biarlah para pengurus yang berstatus Pegawai Negeri Sipil mundur! dan kembali bekerja sebagai pegawai pemerintahan.

Langkah awal adalah menyusun konsep perusahaan “Klub sepakbola”. tentu saja jika sudah tersirat untuk membentuk suatu perusahaan adalah mencari keuntungan, selama ini kata “keuntungan” selalu diatikan negatif. Padahal untuk sebuah klub profesional, sumber pendapatan sangat banyak untuk digali. jika para pengurs Persib sekarang ini tidak sedikitpun bertekad untuk membentuk Persib menjadi klub sepakbola profesional, saatnya para pecinta-pendukung Persib untuk turun tangan dan bahkan tidak dipungkiri , “Bobotoh” Persib sendiri merupakan calon shareholder untuk Klub Sepak Bola Persib Bandung di masa yang akan datang.

selama ini konsep sistem kepengurusan Persib sangat tidak terarah, dari susunan struktur organisasi pun tidak mencerminkan suatu kepengurusan klub sepakbola profesional. susunan pengurus yang hampir setiap saat berubah, mencerminkan ketidak konsistenan kinerja. Mengapa harus repot untuk membentuk “Tim” untuk melakukan evaluasi dan mencari formulasi tim Persib, karena seharusnya dalam kepengurusan sejak awal sudah ada suatu jabatan yang semestinya melakukan hal ini. Jadi “Tim” tersebut bukan sebuah bentukan instant.

jika ingin berimajinasi, konsep klub Persib:

Status: Badan Hukum – Perseroan Terbatas dengan nama perusahaan PT. Persib Bandung FC. dan nama yang akan digunakan dalam daftar klub di Liga Super Indonesia adalah “Persib Bandung FC”. “Persib” bukan lagi sebuah singkatan, tetapi merupakan suatu bentuk kata yang memiliki makna sebagai sebuah nama.
